The manor wedding
has become a
well-known concept
here at Presterud.
Kristinehamn is a municipality closely
associated with its archipelago, located on
the northeastern shores of Lake Vänern.
The town and its surrounding areas are
characterised by water, and the Värmland
woodlands spread out to the north.
Its location meant that it was an
important centre already in the 16th and
17th centuries when iron from Bergslagen
was transported via horse and carriage
and loaded onto ships in Kristinehamn for
further transport. In 1642, the town received
its town privileges from Queen Kristina and
was named Christinehamn.
The yellow manor house of Presterud is
situated by a beautiful garden. Along the
shoreline facing the narrow bay of Lake
Vänern, the campsite and the holiday villages
spread out to the south.
– Here the boats pass by and our guests
have access to a great path for both walks
and cycle rides all the way out to the
Picasso statue – which is actually the largest
artwork by the artist, campsite receptionist
Sara Mattson informs us. It’s about three
kilometres. But we also have the town centre
within perfect reach: Two kilometres or
a 20-minute walk.
The campsite offers 261 pitches for
caravans, campervans and tents. On each
side of the campsite there are modern,
fully equipped and easily accessible service
buildings with showers and toilets. The
southern service building also has a kitchen
where you can cook and do the washing up,
and a laundry room with a tumble drier.
Presterud Manor
has a long history. It
was mentioned in the land register already
in 1540. Back in those days it was a rather
small and insignificant farm. But halfway
through the 18th century it was turned into
a manor. It was sold off a number of times,
finally ending up in the hands of the town
at the start of the 20th century. For many
years it was part of the Bergslagen Artillery
Regiment’s area. Back then, the manor
house served as the officers’ mess.
On this Saturday in August, there
are frantic preparations going on for the
wedding celebrations being held here in the
evening. In the banquet hall on the upper
