Friendly and rustic. It is easy
to feel at home with Marja
Braam and Gerald Tulp at
Kjølen Hotell in Østby close to
Trysil – just like guests have
for over 40 years.
Good service, nice food and direct access
to all the activities that nature has to offer
make the hotel a good starting point.
Marja took over the hotel in 2005
when she moved from Holland to Norway.
Moving abroad was a long-held dream
come true. Now she and Gerald, who
joined her from Holland five years later,
have put their own mark on the hotel.
– We want our guests to feel at home,
says Marja.
There is a relaxed
atmosphere in the
restaurant, the bar and the other lounges –
it is easy to socialise and get to know each
other.
– The sports bar has been a success.
After a day outdoors it’s nice to have a
drink or a beer in the bar before dinner.
The 18 rooms are welcoming. The
details contribute to the homely feel –
guests will find a kettle, a few cups, coffee
and tea, for example. There are a total of
40 beds split between slightly larger family
rooms, double rooms and a few single
rooms.
Kjølen Hotell is open
all year round.
Summer, autumn, winter and spring – each
season offers different types of activities,
both in the immediate surroundings and
a bit further away. The border region
between Norway and Sweden offers
stunning scenery. There are many ways
of exploring the untouched wilderness;
canoeing, hiking and cycling both in the
summer and at the start of autumn. The
hotel works closely with several partners
who organise more adventurous activities.
– And the tracks for cross-country
skiing start right here in the car park, says
Gerald. Six different routes, 42 kilometres
altogether. Many of them also connect
with other tracks. The possibilities are
endless!
