The Hillringsberg Country Estate offers
a beautiful setting by the shores of Lake
Glafsfjorden in the western parts of
Värmland.
– The guests who come here live in
the city and want to relax and fill up on
new energy, says Roy Håkon Eggesvik,
who runs the estate together with his wife
Merethe Helgesen. They want privacy, few
interruptions and open skies.
The Hillingsberg Country Estate
was built in 1776. The local area has
an industrial past that dates all the way
back to the founding of the United States
of America – or even longer. The main
building was the proprietor’s house. 500
square metres split onto three floors and
a large cellar. With a cautious hand, Roy
Håkon and Merethe have renovated the
house room by room, floor by floor.
The stories from the past usually
include intriguing details and charismatic
characters.
– I’m happy to share these with my
guests, says Roy Håkon. It gives their stay
an extra dimension.
The country estate makes
a perfect base
for those who want to go for cultural out-
ings or enjoy the outdoors in the western
parts of Värmland. Today, there are 28
rooms with a total of 60 beds. It is also
a place for weddings, birthdays and other
special occasions.
– We have a Swedish traditional menu
where we use local produce wherever
possible. It has been our philosophy all
along, long before it got to be the trend
that it is today.
Värmland is rich in natural produce.
– Wild mushrooms, berries, game and
fish. Hunting and gathering are a big part
of life and a tradition that we want to pass
on and live off.
