After paying a small gate fee, the road steadily
gets steeper until we reach Budor Gjestegård,
which offers both ski and toboggan lifts and
prepared tracks just around the corner.
You get a paraffin
lamp and a bag
of firewood – then
you’re ready to
move in.
Classic ski terrain with
snow guaranteed
– Here you are in the southern part of
Hedmarksvidda, where the areas Budor, Vang
and Løten offer 300 kilometres of skiing, says
Ola Bolstad, one of the people in charge of the
development and the activities at Budor.
The Budor area is located only 150 km
from the Swedish border in Charlottenberg
and 140 km from Oslo. The Norwegian
mountains are never far away. Only a couple
of hours from the city, the opportunities to go
cross-country skiing are endless.
With sweeping movements, Ola Bolstad
points us to the detailed map that hangs at the
entrance to Budor Gjestegård.
– South Hedmarksvidda is classic tour
terrain, he says. Every winter we connect the
tracks from several of the bigger places in
the area, which means that we can offer 300
kilometres of prepared tracks.
– These areas all guarantee snow. We
don’t need snow cannons up here to prepare
our tracks or ski and toboggan slopes. When
we’ve laid all the tracks, you can get all the
way to Sjusjøen in the mountains east of
Lillehammer.
The central meeting point in Budor is the
guesthouse with its restaurant and café.
The Budor Skitrekk ski centre is located at
an altitude of 620 metres. The surrounding
mountains peak at over 700 metres. Ola
Bolstad points out Nordhue at 767 metres,
Svaen at 758 and Klekkefjellet at an
altitude of 675 metres. The higher we look,
the fewer trees we see. Still the whole area
is filled with old pine forests which provide
shelter from wind and weather on cloudy
days.
Budor is a place
where the whole family
can have a good time, in part because
the left lift is specially designed to help
toboggan riders up the slope. Toboggan
gear can be hired and is available for both
children and adults.
– It’s really good fun riding on a proper
toboggan, says Ola Bolstad. The snow
whirls around you and the speed makes
your stomach flip!
The prepared slopes in Budor are 900
metres long and hence perfect for both
Budor Gjestegård
and Skitrekk,
Løten
Budor Gjestegård and Skitrekk
