Fryken”, “Boat ride in the warm summer
night”, and so on.
– When I came here I wanted to put
emphasis on the history of the hotel in
order to move forward. This is a feel-good
place – it’s almost like home! Today, we’ve
named the meeting and conference rooms
in the oldest part of the house after the
enterprising women who’ve been important
to this place. Hildur, Viola, Alma, Hulda,
Elsa, Helfrid.
The building also has the women’s
corridor which is decorated with pictures,
paintings, collages, letters and postcards
reminiscent of the past.
– My idea has been to give the rooms
different themes. We also have a men’s
corridor – Västanåkorridoren – where
the rooms have been named after several
of Selma Lagerlöf’s male characters: The
Emperor, Gösta, Nils, Mårten and Sir Arne.
Art plays an important
role at Hotel Fry-
kenStrand and several well-known artists
from Värmland are represented here. For
example Lars Lerin, through both books
and paintings, and Erling Ärlingsson.
The holiday home was later bought by
ABF Värmland which invested a lot in
education through courses and conferences.
Soon there was a need for more accom-
modation. A large extension was built in the
mid-1980s and the lovely dining room with
large panoramic windows overlooking the
lake was added in 1997.
Today, Hotel FrykenStrand is both a hotel
and a conference centre. Regardless of
whether guests are here with colleagues
on business, a group of friends or are here
on their own, Lena hopes that they will
take the opportunity to explore all that is
naturally offered here and around Sunne. It
could be summed up as culture and nature.
– Just outside the door is the start of a
short adventure path, no more than 500
metres long. It is intended to offer a short
break. Words of wisdom pop up here and
there for you to read. For example, “Sit down
and do nothing” or “Let your soul rest”.
– For those who want to go for a longer
walk, we have marked out two, three and
five kilometre long routes which lead
straight through the stunning Värmland
landscape. And for groups who want a more
challenging adventure, we have partners
who can arrange everything.
Hotel FrykenStrand makes a good base
for a few days or a week, a comfortable
place to return to in the evening after a
day of excursions. Visit Selma Lagerlöf’s
Mårbacka Memorial one day and the next
you could head up to the lookout point
Tossebergsklätten before continuing on to
Torsby where you will find Sahlströmsgården
and Heidruns café. And of course don’t
forget to simply enjoy the moment.
