The view is breathtaking. Way down
below we can see the Vitsand Church, Lake
Övre Brocken, a number of farms and forests
that stretch all the way to Klarälvdalen in the
east. Frank has brought several binoculars in
his backpack which he hands out as he talks
about what lies before us.
– There is a geocache eight meters below
the cliff!
It is mushroom
season. Just off the
trail there is a whole colony of hedgehog
mushrooms that Frank wants to bring back
to his partner. Later in the autumn, the
ground will be covered with chanterelles.
We find some growing in a cluster in the
middle of the path.
– The mushrooms will make a nice
supper. With lots of butter, he says smiling.
Karl-Eric Westerberg is one of the owners
of the facility at Hovfjället. In the winter,
it is a very popular ski resort with plenty
of snow and slopes for downhill skiing
and miles and miles of great cross-country
skiing tracks. But he wishes more people
would come here throughout the rest of
the year as well, to discover all that the
wilderness has to offer.
– We who run businesses in Hovfjället
