choice
for families
Branäs
Babysitters, kid’s after-ski ice cream parties,
warm juice served on the nursery slopes,
playrooms and computer games in the
restaurants, snowmobile rides at the top
of the mountain. Fun activities without the
extra charge and of course excellent skiing!
Somehow it comes as no surprise that
Branäs has been voted “Sweden’s best
ski resort for families” year after year.
It is a wonderful day. Minus eleven degrees.
Plenty of snow. The Branäs Mountain
shelters against the wind. It is only right at
the top that the wind gets a chance to bite
at your cheeks.
The Knutsson Liljemark family from
Karlstad has come for a long weekend.
They are staying in an apartment at the
centre of the Branäs Village from Thursday
to Sunday. Within a few hundred metres
they have a convenience store, sports shop,
ski rental, information centre, restaurant
and bar. The button lift going up the slope
Amundsbacken and the cable car which
takes them all the way up to the top, also
start here.
– Branäs is expanding and developing
every season, says local manager Olof
Ljungberg.
The youngest daughter, Alva, starts the
day with the Children’s Snowmobile Ride.
Parents Helena and Hans accompany her.
The driver Frida Jakobsson makes sure that
everyone gets seated in the sled, which has
room for up to twelve children per round.
Then they head off across the bog, cruising
between the snow-covered trees and
disappear out of sight.
This is also the track central for those
who enjoy cross-country skiing. In the
background we can hear sled dogs barking,
anxious to get going on their first run of
the day.

ride, teenagers
Andrea and Tilda also join in.
– I have been to Branäs many times, ever
since I was a child, says Tilda. The slopes
are nice and there’s a laid back attitude.
