Those who have ever slipped into a bed
with real linen sheets know how nice and
comfortable it is.
– Linen sheets are making a comeback
in our collection now, says Andreas
Johansson. They’re in demand, especially
after we were assigned the honorary task
to design and weave Värmland’s wedding
gift for the Crown Princess Victoria and
her husband Daniel.
– It took us several months to develop
the product, but we are immensely pleased
with the result. The bed sets that we are
adding to our collection have the same
design, except Victoria and Daniel have
their monogram woven into the fabric.
Today, the tablecloths, napkins, towels
and other linen products made by Klässbol
Linen Weaving Mill are loved by people
the world over. They receive attention and
are widely acclaimed. In 1984, they were
handed a highly prestigious assignment to
design and weave tablecloths and napkins
for every Swedish embassy in the world.
And only four years later, Norway also
chose to supply their embassies with linens
from Klässbol Linen Weaving Mill.
One of the most important
events
of the year is the Nobel banquet on 10
December. The linen tablecloths and
napkins are, of course, made in Klässbol.
– At the start of the 1990s, the
Nobel banquet chose to make their own
collection for the Nobel dinner, says
Andreas Johansson. Only the very best
were chosen. Linen from Klässbol, glass
from Orrefors, china from Rörstrand and
cutlery from Gense. The specially designed
products were used for the first time in
1991, which was the 90th anniversary of
the Nobel Prize.
The company profile has so far been
products for the dinner table.
– However, we’d like to spread to other
areas – the bathroom, the bedroom, the
living room. The entire home.
– It is a matter of balance to keep
the cultural heritage alive and at the
same time invest in the future, Andreas
Johansson points out. Quality has always
been and will always be our guiding light.
That applies to the entire chain, from raw
material and refining methods to design
and weaving technique.
– The whole production takes place here
in Klässbol. The weaving mill currently
has 22 employees and we work actively
with 13 designers. The pace of renewal
is slow. For every new product that we
develop, there’s a long-term plan. Seven of
Hjalmar’s original patterns are still being
used.
