Svein and Gry Eriksen are the owners of
Alfarheim Farm, where they run the horse
stables, as well as a large-scale forestry
business. They offer seasonal activities
to the growing number of visitors who
are discovering Trysil Horse Centre, 25
kilometres from central Trysil and only
ten kilometres from the Swedish border.
In the autumn they welcome groups
who want to explore the surroundings
on horseback, accompanied by a guide.
Nearly every tour includes encounters
with a variety of wild animals and birds.
You can go for two-hour, half-day or
full-day rides.
– We welcome riders of all levels on our
guided tours, says Gry. We try to create
groups that are as even as possible and it’s
also your previous experience that decides
which out of our 15 horses you get to ride.
– You can come here as a beginner;
80 per cent of our guests have never
ridden before.
There are prOFILEs
of the horses on the
website. Several of the traditional Nordic
horse breeds are represented, including
fjordings, the national horse in Norway,
bred to carry heavy loads across the
mountains in Western Norway. There
are also dole horses, originating from
Grundbrandsdalen and Eastern Norway,
but also closely related with other
workhorses and forest horses typical to
Scandinavia, among them the
North Swedish horse.
– We also have three Shetland ponies
for the youngest children, Svein continues.
Zeb, Grynet and Svarten. They are real
charmers. The children love them and
feel completely safe sitting on their backs.
– We lead the Shetties for shorter rides
along the woodland roads nearby.
The horses at
Trysil Horse Centre are
known for being gentle and friendly.
Safety and quality are key values to Svein
and Gry. The wilderness makes the rides
exciting enough.
– The terrain offers the unexpected
and we get to experience different
environments on our rides, Gry continues.
