Lake Vänern and reality
Krokstad Manor,
Säffle
There are records of settlements here
from as early as the 13th century. Just
200 metres from today’s yellow painted
manor house, the River Byälven passes by,
connecting Lake Glafsfjorden and Lake
Vänern, the largest lake in Sweden, which
in turn connects with the seas of the world
via the Göta Älv River. One of the wings is
thought to originate from the 15th century
and parts of the main house from the 18th
century. Marianne would like to learn more
about the history of Krokstad; a lot is still
unknown.
– Over the years, there have been a
number of noble families who have farmed
and lived on the estate. It has also been a
Bible school and later it was renovated and
turned into a modern, charming manor
with accommodation, conference facilities
and a restaurant. Today, I lease it from
Säffle municipality.
– I really want more people to get the
chance to experience the good life in the
countryside, to spend time in these unique
surroundings, go for scenic walks all the
way down to Lake Vänern, and enjoy the
gardens, she continues.

Manor are
all looking for the same thing but for
different reasons. Quiet, tranquil, enjoyable
moments. A menu based on local produce
from nature’s own supply and the nearby
farm. Wine from the manor’s own cellar.

The distances are short – two hours
from Gothenburg, two hours from Oslo
and not even an hour from Karlstad
Airport.
– Meetings and conferences with
accommodation for up to 25 people and
daily activities for many more are very
much appreciated by our guests, says
Marianne. I also want the manor to be a
place where companies like to bring their
business partners and meet with clients
who are visiting the region. Here, every
group gets to feel special and we give them
their own space so that they can work and
meet without disruptions.
Besides companies and groups, there
are also more individuals finding their
way here. The atmosphere makes you feel
privileged; to come here is to treat yourself
to something extra special – spending time
with close friends or finally getting to spend
an entire weekend with your partner.
The surroundings here are clearly cut
out for warm, relaxing summer days and
white, glittering cold winter weekends.
– But I would really like to recommend
more people to come here during the rest
