Sunne was named after its location in
the sound which connects the central and
the northern parts of Lake Fryken. In the
gentle Värmland dialect, the Swedish word
for sound, “sund”, turns into the softer
version, Sunne.
Traditionally, this part
of Värmland
is perfect for those who like being active
and who enjoy the outdoors – in ski
tracks and on the slopes in winter, and
with the forests and lakes as natural
companions in the summer. In addition,
the close proximity to Torsby Ski Tunnel
now attracts cross-country skiers to the
area all year round.
20 years ago, Sunne was complemented
by the establishment that we today call
Selma Spa+, a place for those who truly
want to enjoy the good life. It is the focus
on both body and mind that makes up the
basis for the activities that attract over
35,000 guests to the spa every year.
–We’re constantly developing along
with our guests, many of them come here
regularly, says hotel manager Anders
Pertun. At the same time we are opening
up to more groups of clients by offering
package deals in a more conscious way;
combining individual activities, interesting
lectures, treatments, nice food and drinks.
–Today you can stay at Selma Spa+ for
a few intense and informative fitness days,
he continues. Our sport and fitness events
are aimed at those who are participating
in one of the Vasalopp races, who want
to prepare for a marathon or take part in
other challenges. There is also cycling, both
mountain biking and on the roads, as well
as yoga and dancing.
–This also means that we’re adapting
the hotel to suit all the new activities. We
have small washing machines with drying
facilities so that the guests can keep their
fitness gear fresh. Part of the garage has
been turned into a space where you can
