map to understand that those who wish to
travel on water through a varied landscape
have come to the right place. Blue water
and green forests predominate. It is never
more than one or two kilometres between
the various watercourses that connect the
canoe trails into routes of just the right
length.
– We collaborate with several travel
organisers around Europe, says Luc. You
can also easily make bookings on our
website. Some guests want to stay out for a
week or more, others find that a couple of
nights is enough and want to come back to
the centre to try other activities or continue
on to other sights around Värmland.
The journey there
does not have to take
long. The centre is only 65 kilometres from
the airport in Karlstad, with regular flights
to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Barcelona,
and it is only 170 kilometres between the
main airport in Olso, Gardemoen, and the
centre.
You decide how much gear you want to
bring.
– We offer package deals, says Luc.
They’re very popular and appreciated.
You get all you need to live a good life out
in the wild – food and menus covering all
meals, kitchen equipment, sleeping bags,
tent, life vests, water-proof storage, rain
cover and other kinds of safety gear.
Before heading out
on a tour, it is
important that everyone takes part in
the introduction held by instructors from
Arvika Canoe and Tourist Centre. You
learn to deal with different situations that
may arise on the trip, how to help your
fellow canoeists and how to get the most
out of your outdoor experience.
Markus Engblom is one of the instruc-
tors who works with the canoeists. He gives
advice based on his own experience. For
example:
– Make sure that your ride is enjoyable.
Stay close to shore, don’t stress, travel at a
slow pace.
Of course he thinks it is amazing to
come here in the summer. But he also wants
more people to grab the chance to discover
the Swedish outdoors both in early spring
and late autumn.
