Østerdalen Hotel is located four kilometres
north of Rena just next to Road 3. Oslo is
170 kilometres to the south, and Trondheim
lies 350 kilometres to the north. Exactly
30 years ago, Alt Lufdt thought it was the
perfect place to build a hotel and made
large investments in the most modern and
well-planned hotel of its time.
The combination of spacious lounges,
restaurant and bar, and fully equipped
apartments and rooms, still makes
Østerdalen Hotel a place where you can
feel at home.
– Our location attracts a lot of people
who are travelling and looking for a good
night’s sleep, says Ingvild. More and
more people also discover that the local
surroundings are suitable for longer stays
with a few days of relaxation and activities.
Since January 2010, Ingvild is
responsible for the day to day management.
At her side she also has her husband
Gotmar Rustad, honorary member of the
society Aquavitens Venner, a well-known
name among those who are interested in
the history of Norwegian aquavit. It is his
collection with at least 95 different kinds of
aquavit which is used for tasting in the very
special bar of the hotel.
He takes a moment to think and then
selects a few bottles which he places on the
bar counter. He explains that aquavit matu-
res for different lengths of time in different
types of barrels, which is how it develops
its flavours and individual characteristics.
The most expensive rarities cost up to 250
kronor for four centilitres, but there are
also the more common varieties which
you can buy in the shops.
– And here we have Gylden Aquavit,
he says with a smile. It hasn’t been on the
market for 15 years, but I still have a few
samples left.
– I have made a living out of aquavit
– or at least my knowledge of aquavit –
for more than 20 years. It is part of our
Nordic cultural history. Norwegian aquavit
is unique and rests on traditions that are
over 200 years old. I dare say that aquavit
doesn’t taste the way you think. Several of
these go perfectly with various dishes.
Golf packages

good
life
During our years here, we have spent a lot of energy on
turning the hotel into a golf resort that is unique to Norway.
There are far too few places where you can park your car,
check in at the hotel and then head out on the golf course.
