fee. Sorknes Golf Club is an 18-hole wooded
course directly adjacent to the hotel. You
can walk to the club house in a few minutes
or rent one of the golf cars which are parked
in a row outside the door.
– It’s not just we who think that Sorknes
offers an extraordinary outdoor experience,
says Ingvild. Woods, small lakes and a
gushing river by the foot of the mountain
give the round a special setting.
– During our years here, we have spent
a lot of energy on turning the hotel into a
golf resort that is unique to Norway, she
continues. There are far too few places
where you can park your car, check in at
the hotel and then head out on the golf
course. If you’re a group who’d like to come
here and play together we are more than
happy to tailor a package for you.
There are a lot of
chartered buses passing
along Road 3. To many of the travellers,
Østerdalen Hotel has become a welcome
stop where you can enjoy nice food and
have a break.

are set with white tablecloths and we
can divide our restaurant so that the
group gets a private sitting.
The Sunday buffet at the hotel is
renowned in the local area.
– Yes, it has quickly become very
popular, Gotmar continues. Couples,
families and friends from many of the
nearby towns come here especially for
the food. We also have the pleasure of
arranging larger family gatherings in
our restaurant – confirmations, birthdays
and weddings.
When the snow
starts to fall and the
golfing season is over, Østerdalen Hotel
turns into an establishment perfect for
winter sports. Only a short distance from
the hotel, the challenging Birkebeinerennet,
Norway’s answer to the Swedish ski race
Vasaloppet, starts. 54 kilometres of classic
cross-country skiing straight across the
mountains from Rena to Lillehammer.
Close to the hotel you will also find
Østerdalen Skisenter, a ski resort four
kilometres up the mountain. The longest
lift is 1,200 metres and the longest run is
2,500 metres
