Lagerlöf’s Mårbacka, Rottneros Park is an
interesting place to visit. Länsmansgården
offers a good starting point for all of these
activities. Stay for a few days or a whole
week. Daily excursions can also include
trips south to Karlstad and Kristinehamn,
west to Klässbol and Arvika, or north into
Klarälvdalen.
– We also arrange our own exhibitions
with regular openings, says Marianne.
There always seems to be something going
on where art and culture are allowed in. It
gets good things going.
Länsmansgården is known
for having
one of the best menus in Värmland.
Wherever possible local produce is used;
meat and fish from the forests and lakes,
vegetables from nearby farmers. Several
small-scale food producers operate in the
area. Chef Eva Thorsson has worked here
since 1984. Skillfully prepared Swedish
food is close to her heart, so she gladly
serves a typical Swedish smorgasbord.
– Many different kinds of herring,
homemade meatballs and Värmland
sausages, pâtés and quiches. I like the
traditional recipes, but I also want to come
up with new ideas and add influences from
other places.
Her colleagues enthusiastically reel off
the list of Eva’s culinary creations that are
loved by the guests at Länsmansgården.
– The morel sauce, the tjälknöl* of
deer or beef, the nettle soup, the red wine
sauce, the pickled summer chanterelles, the
potato gratin with goat’s cheese.
* Traditional Swedish meat dish cooked from frozen
on a low heat.
